About

Lillian Blue Makin is a 23-year-old, queer alternative hip-hop and folk artist born and raised in Toronto, Canada. Makin's music is an intriguing blend of rap, jazz, and folk. Lillian explores themes of young queer love, personal evolution, and identity in her music. Although it is not common to hear of an artist who makes both hip hop and folk music, the juxtaposing genres come naturally to Lillian and seem to weave around and through one another throughout her catalog. Growing up with a family of musicians embedded country, rock, and blues, as a music of her roots. And Hip hop came naturally from Lillian’s love for poetry and artists such as ms. Lauryn Hill and Noname. Other musician influences include Dolly Parton, Andy Sauf, and Erykah Badu. Lillian began independently releasing music in February of 2020 and currently has five singles out, as well as an 11 track LP, Primary Language, released in October of 2022. This debut project is a mix of hip hop, folk, r&b, and country. Producers on the album include Jimmy Bowskill of Blue Rodeo, and Felix Fox of BADBADNOTGOOD. Lillian’s music has grossed over 1.5 million streams on Spotify alone and the numbers continue to grow. In 2023 Lillian graduated from The Harris Institute with an honors diploma in audio production. Makin’s lyricism and recorded music are not the only form of success Lillian has seen with her music, her live shows are also critically acclaimed. Most recently Makin has sold out the Drake Underground and The Cameron House. Aside from her own music, Lillian has written for/with local artists over the years such as Danie Roman and Mighloe. Through this she has achieved a sync placement on CBC’s Kim’s Convenience. Lillian Blue Makin is set to release her sophomore project in 2024.
